人數低檔、缺少明星 壽山動物園陷瓶頸
壽山動物園3月份因為貓熊議題，一度成為大家討論的熱門話題，但其實園方這幾年就問題重重，除了在民國103年人數最高來到近87萬人，最慘跌到剩下約68萬人，落差將近20萬人，而活動空間也比木柵動物園擁擠，近四年來每年每隻動物的預算，更是從1.5萬元剩下1.1萬元，重點是動物老化，又缺少明星主角，遊客直言缺少賣點。
遊客：「為什麼梅花鹿的耳朵有東西呀，它的身分證呀。」
遊客：「牠眼睛張開了，啊！牠醒來了。」
周末的壽山動物園，家長帶著小孩出遊，但卻不是每位家長都這麼開心。
遊客：「明星動物?說實在的，我們只是來玩水的。」
遊客：「動物不夠健康活潑吧。」
遊客：「應該要有一些比較有明網路人氣商品top102018熱門商品星的東西，吸引小朋友來的。」
家長的觀察也反在人數上，98年底重新整修開放，隔年突破八十萬人，100年引進白老虎，衝到84萬多人，102年、103年修建大貓廊道及露天鹿園，將近有87萬人，但接下來又被打回原形，最少時更只剩下68萬人。
高雄市議員(民)郭建盟：「因為遊客不足，所以我們的收入也不夠，落入這種惡性循環，我們認為，我們是不是進一步去思考，我們動物園應該怎麼樣轉型。」
壽山動物園每年預算約3500萬元，但收入最多只有兩千多萬，得靠市府編列預算填補，而活動空間每公頃容納34隻動物，也比木柵動物園的15隻多了一倍，就連每隻動物的預算，四年來都從1.5萬元降到剩1.1萬元。
高雄市議員(時)林于凱：「每年動物園的預算都是在刪減的，所以代表說市府並沒有特別去重視壽山動物園。」
壽山動物園主任莊絢智：「每隻動物的活動空間，那還有牠場地的一些植物，或者是植被來講，都是符合標準的。」
但最大的問題，還是動物本身，因為種類數量從一百種七百隻，現在只剩80種450隻，加上明星動物安妮、黑豹、棕熊，相繼死亡，白老虎及黑熊近年來也各死了一隻。
壽山動物園主任莊絢智：「那我們也希望說，能藉由保育合作的方式，來讓一些新的動物引進。」
遊客：「牠好好笑喔。」
遊客：「哦！我的天呀！怎麼這麼可愛呀。」
園區內最新的可愛明星，除了入口處的狐蒙，其他像是黑冠獼猴、侏儒河馬以及黑熊波比的新家都經過重新整修。
遊客：「牠在擦玻璃耶，好厲害哦。」
遊客：「啊！好像真的人喔。」
雖然受限經費及人力，但園方近年來透過網路及影片，積極行銷亮點，希望能找回遊客失去的熱情。
